The Unit of Education of Adultos (UEA) is a Cultural Unit of the University of the Minho. The UEA was created in 1982, in the sequence of the development project of the Unit for Adult Education, initiated in 1976 with the support of the Swedish International Development Authority and the University of Linköping (Sweden).
The objectives of the Unit for Adult Education are:
To create an develop courses for adult education monitors, trainers, supervisors and leaders of local development agencies, popular associations and voluntary associations;
To study contexts and practices of adult education, carrying out field work, disseminating results and intervening through the development of research-action projects;
To support and supervise, scientifically and pedagogically, research and socio-educative intervention projects promoted by schools, associations, co-operatives, enterprises, public sector services, autonomous bodies, etc.
To stimulate and support the development of participatory methodologies, those where the adult actively takes part in all the phases of the process (conception, organisation, management, evaluation, etc);
To establish networks of scientific, pedagogic and financial co-operation with national, foreign and international institutions.
